Data Mesh
An org approach treating data as a product owned by domain teams, not one central data team.
Data mesh is an organizational and architectural approach to analytics data that decentralizes ownership. Instead of one central team funneling everything into a monolithic warehouse or lake, each business domain owns its data as a product — with clear interfaces, quality guarantees, and discoverability — supported by a shared self-serve platform and federated governance.
Worked example: the payments team publishes a well-documented, versioned "transactions" data product other teams can subscribe to, rather than a central team reverse-engineering payment tables into a warehouse. Gotcha: data mesh is primarily an operating-model change, not a tool you install — adopting it without the domain ownership and governance culture just produces scattered silos with a fashionable name, so the hard part is organizational, not technical.
