What gets automated, what becomes valuable

The new game-dev stack — and the pivots

Two directions: level up within game-making by owning design and AI-in-games tech, or pivot into an adjacent role your craft sets you up for.

1 — Own game feel — the thing AI can't sense

Game design is a tight loop: build something, feel how it plays, adjust based on that felt sense. This is real technical craft that barely existed before and that players increasingly expect. Learning to design and engineer AI-driven gameplay — and to do it so it enhances rather than gimmicks the experience — is a fast-growing specialty and a strong bet.

3 — Pivot on design and systems, or go AI-leveraged indie

Point your craft where AI can't follow. Technical game design — owning systems, mechanics, and feel — is durable judgment. AI-gameplay engineering — building AI-driven NPCs and systems — is the new specialty. And AI-leveraged indie is newly viable: a tiny team or solo dev can use AI to produce the assets and code that used to need a studio, making design and distribution the bottleneck instead of production capacity (see AI for Founders).
